This page is for the version 1.0 of Jukebox. Since publishing in 2022, the game rules have been updated, there are playsets, I've commissioned art, and there's going to be a print run.

Note: On 7/31/2024, the manuscript of Jukebox version 2 was uploaded here for all itch.io customers. This is a text-only version of the game. The fully laid-out PDFs are coming soon!

jukebox musical [jook-boks myoo-zi-kuhl] n. 

a musical that uses songs that are not original to the play or movie and are integrated into the plot.

Jukebox is a musical roleplaying game, played over 4 hours, with 3-4 friends and a karaoke setup. You’ll play a cast of characters who are all struggling in their own way against an overwhelming challenge. During three acts, hidden longings will be revealed, grievances will be aired, and songs will be sung. Will old wounds and personal drama doom you all to failure? Or will you change and grow just in time to save the day?

Jukebox requires no preparation and is GM-less. The only things you need to play are: 

  • A computer (or another device with a large screen), with a sound system and internet connection
  • A deck of cards
  • The provided Playbill print out

This item includes the Jukebox guidebook, quick reference sheet, and Playbill printout.

hi, will version 2 of the game be available to people who purchase the current version or will it be a separate purchase?

Hi Antidiss! Your comment and purchase got me to do an update I intended to do a few weeks ago, which was to share what's complete of version 2 with itch customers.

That's a long way of saying yes! If you purchased version 1 or Kickstarted version 2, you will be getting PDF copies of version 2. There is no need to purchase anything twice. Thank you for buying Jukebox!

played this game at big bad con and had a absolute blast. This was fun dramatic, funny and one of the highlights of my con. Highly recommend this game.

I enjoyed playing this game with two of my friends. I'm not even a seasoned karaoke player, but belting out epic songs in the context of playing a bigger game was really fun! Using songs to demonstrate and solve problems related to the characters we were playing was unique and innovative.
